Fortnite Steam Deck: Playing Fortnite on the Steam Deck may seem like a simple task, but it’s actually quite complicated. As Epic and Valve are at odds with each other, it is not possible to play the game natively on SteamOS. However, thanks to the open nature of the Steam Deck, there are a few workarounds to get Fortnite up and running on the device.

Fortnite Steam Deck: How to play

One way to play Fortnite on the Steam Deck is by installing Windows onto the device. While you’ll be playing the game at low settings, it should run smoothly at 60FPS. The other methods are by using either Xbox Cloud Gaming with Game Pass or Nvidia GeForce Now, both of which require the use of Microsoft Edge, which can be downloaded from the app store in desktop mode.

How to stream Fortnite to the Steam Deck

To use Microsoft Edge, press the Steam button on your home screen and go to Power. Then, select Desktop mode from the menu that appears. Once in Desktop mode, go to the Discover Store and search for Microsoft Edge. After installing it, find it in the taskbar menu, right-click on it, and choose “Add to Steam”. This will allow you to play your chosen streaming service in Gaming mode.

For Nvidia GeForce Now, open Konsole and use the following code to give the correct permissions to Edge to get over any security barriers: flatpak –user override –filesystem=/run/udev:ro com.microsoft.Edge. Then, close Konsole, right-click Microsoft Edge in Steam, choose Properties, and locate Launch Options. Type the following code: –window-size=1024,640 –force-device-scale-factor=1.25 –device-scale-factor=1.25 –kiosk “https://www.play.geforcenow.com”. This will set Edge to run in Kiosk mode when selected through the shortcut, allowing you to play Fortnite on the Steam Deck.

If you want to use Xbox Cloud Gaming instead of Nvidia GeForce Now, you’ll need to type in: –kiosk “https://www.xbox.com/play”. Once you’re done, load into Gaming mode, and your streaming service of choice should load up, allowing you to play Fortnite on the Steam Deck.

In conclusion, while it may take a bit of effort, it is possible to play Fortnite on the Steam Deck. By following the above methods, you should be able to get the game up and running in no time.
